[GIFT FOR WILD] QUINSHINE

I decided to pick up a pencil and draw another Quinshine scene! (Also Quinshine is a really cute ship name...)

It's been awhile since I've drawn Quintanna and Starshine (Wildflower75's OCs). Last time I drew them was all the way back in 2022a whopping 3 years ago. And.. well...

It... doesn't look all that good. The proportions are weird, Starshine doesn't quite have a neck and what's going on with her tail? Same with Quinn's tail—it's weirdly thick and unnatural. Not to mention their head shapes, which are elongated and resemble more triangle-wolf than a fox.

I've completed (I think...?) 2 art trades with Wild in the past, both of which I drew so horribly (since I can't draw online) that it's actually embarrassing to look back at. I mean, the trades were completely unfair because I just didn't have any skill.

Absolutely treacherous looking, looks more like a flying rat than anything. And why is the rear end sagging???

Even though I still can't draw online, and I can't shade or do backgrounds, I thought it would be nice to redraw Wild's OCs to see my improvement. It was a fun challenge to pose for myself.

So... what do you think?

(do those look clear enough?)

Better lighting..? Maybe?

Since they were HEAVILY implied to be dating, I thought I'd draw them as a ship. I went light on the blush this time (probably not light enough, judging by Starshine's face).

You might be wondering, how difficult is it to draw love? Apparently, really difficult. Easier to grasp concepts like happiness, sadness, and fear translate really easily onto the paper since body language is easy to draw. But not love. And since I'd never drawn it before, I needed a reference. Unfortunately for me, searching "How to draw love" gives you only red heart drawings. So I looked no further than a TV show to find my reference for drawing!

Appledash Supremacy!!!!!!! (Season 6, Episode 26: To Where And Back Again Part 2)

...I used My Little Pony. Surprisingly, the characters in this show are animated super expressively which make for an easy reference. Also, this ship is cute (and semi-canon, since it's confirmed they live together and is also HEAVILY hinted at in the canon supplemental material and video games).

For the foxes themselves, I didn't use a reference since I draw canines regularly. I saw that in Quinn's art she's typically fluffier than Starshine so I tried to convert that. Did it work? Meh. I'm pleased with how Starshine's tail turned out, though.

I think I drew Quinn more wolf-like accidentally. Typically, I try to draw foxes with sharper snouts and pointier ears but her face looks more round.

I also challenged myself by using digitigrade legs! For those who don't know, canines, elephants, and other animals like birds walk on their toes, also called "digitigrade locomotion." I only recently started drawing legs like this, so it looks a bit funky.

Plantigrade, Digitigrade, and Unguligrade (Wikipedia)

Still, looking back I can safely say that I've improved.

My eye style has changed, though I see this more as a good thing since the old one didn't look good anyway. I also have a better understanding of anatomy (like look at the old Starshine's ear...) and the new art is more animal-like. The fur looks more natural and less bulky and my proportions have gotten a lot better (although they are still a pain!). I've also kept the same old cartoonish art style which I think is the funniest part.

I also loved looking back on your art (I'm gonna write in second person now) I'm amazed at your improvement! Seriously, your art has gotten so much better and your backgrounds look phenomenal!

(Like, look at the first time you drew Quinn!)

That pretty much concludes this post! What are your thoughts on this Quinshine scene? Lemme know ^^
